Costa Brava Super X
30|05|2005      intro [00]

On the 31st of May, the Bay of Roses on the Costa Brava coast of Spain will go ballistic as it takes over for the second Super X event of the 2005 season. Super X is the PWA’s explosive adrenaline pumped obstacle race format, combining full speed racing with the latest freestyle moves and spectacular crashes, guaranteeing high paced action from the world’s top sailors. As Super X is gaining popularity fast, more and more riders are signing up for windsurfing’s wildest discipline.

Roses Bay is located in the northern part of Spain’s popular Costa Brava coast. With its year round consistent wind conditions, Roses is one of the country’s best windsurfing spots. This will be the 7th year that the PWA riders have visited to the 12 km sandy bay to dazzle the crowds with their performance, indicating just how reliable the local winds are. It’s the second supercross event held in Rosas, building on last year’s highly successful event and the bay’s perfect conditions for this full throttle discipline.

Cyril Moussilmani (Fanatic)
Last year’s contest put Frenchman Cyril Moussilmani (F-71, Fanatic) right in the international Super X spotlight by taking first prize in gale force Tramontana winds , before his compatriot Antoine Albeau (F-192, Neil Pryde) and Gran Canaria based Norwegian Vidar Jensen (N-44, North). With a total of four rounds and a spectacular supersession filled with insane double loops, pushloops and ninja table tops, the 2004 Costa Brava event was a massive success.

The 2005 Super X tour kicked off in Leucate in April, with Matt Pritchard (US-10, Tabou/ Gaastra) taking the trophy in 35 knot winds, showing the competition he is the man to beat this year. Cyril Moussilmani came in second before UK’s Robby Swift (K-89, JP/ Neil Pryde). There’s no question Pritchard will go all out to leave the competition in his wake and solidify his top position in the tournament. But as no discipline is as unpredictable as Super X and anything can happen between start and finish, there’s no telling the outcome of the event until the winners take their podium places.

With a total prize purse of €30.000, the 2005 Costa Brava Super X starts on the 31st of May until the 5th of June. Log onto www.pwaworldtour.com for all the latest news, pictures and result from the Spanish coast as the world’s finest windsurfers go head to head for their share of Super X glory.
