Guincho Wave Contest - PWA World Cup
17|06|2005      [02] - june, 16th

The 2005 Estoril Guincho PWA World Cup Press Release Day 2
Big names dominate the contest as second round is completed.

The second day of competition of the 2005 Estoril Guincho PWA World Cup picked up where it left off in the first round. After starting in variable winds this morning, conditions started warming up as the day advanced. Although the wind was more than strong enough for competition with sailors being on sails between 4.7 and 5.7, it was light on the inside throughout the day. Therefore the riders were judged based on waveriding only.

Levi Siver
Round # 1 was completed without any significant upsets. Advancing into the next round today were Frenchman Julien Taboulet (F-100, JP/Neil Pryde), Greg Allaway (KA-38, Mistral/North), Orjan Jensen (E-19, North), Robby Swift (K-89, JP/Neil Pryde), Peter Volwater (H-24, F2), Ross Williams (GBR-83, Starboard/Gaastra), Nik Baker (K-66, Mistral/North), Diony Guadagnino (V-69, Neil Pryde), Alex Mussolini (E-30, JP/Neil Pryde), Yann Sorlut (F-60), Francisco Porcella (US-69), Yannick Anton (F-8), Klaas Voget (G-4, F2), Levi Siver (USA-0, Starboard), Jonas Ceballos (E-40, Fanatic), Matt Pritchard (US-10, Tabou/Gaastra), Josh Angulo (US-11), Xavier Huart (F-33, Mistral/North) and John Hibbard (K-007, Starboard).

Julien Taboulet
In the afternoon the wind picked up and turned sideshore as is common practice here in Guincho, setting the stage for round # 2 in which Jason Polakow (KA-1111, JP/Neil Pryde) had the edge over Antoine Albeau (F-192, Neil Pryde), Victor Fernandez (E-42, Fanatic) took out Kai Katchadourian (US-33, Quatro), Kauli Seadi (BRA-253, Quatro/Naish) disposed of Boujmaa Guilloul (M-3, Starboard/Severne) and Bjorn Dunkerbeck (E-11, North) beat Andy Wolff (G-9, Tabou/Gaastra). Others to advance were John Skye (K-57, F2) and Ross Williams. Julien Taboulet seems unstoppable and moved onto the third round, as well as Francisco Porcella and Robby Swift. Move of the day goes to Diony Guadagnino, sticking a massive goiter and thereby claiming victory in his heat against Nik Baker. Alex Mussolini made it to the last sixteen, as did Yannick Anton, taking out Yann Sorlut who pulled off a clean double forward. But as jumps didn’t count today, it wasn’t enough for Sorlut to advance. Levi Siver sent Klaas Voget home and last but not least Matt Pritchard, Josh Angulo and Scott McKercher (KA-181, Starboard/Severne) all made it through.

The top sixteen waveriders will fight their way into the final over the next days, so make sure to stay tuned to www.pwaworldtour.com for the latest developments from the 2005 Estoril Guincho PWA World Cup.
