| Vargas, Aguimes PWA Wave World Cup 2003 Day 5
The PWA Freestyle "Supersession" results from yesterday had no changes today. Anyone who missed the live broadcasts with the Supersession champion Ricardo Campello's (JP / Neil Pryde) new move the 'shaka' or runner up Robby Swift's (JP / Neil Pryde) double forward loop can still see these moves and more online at www.high.tv
By 4pm today the surf had not picked up enough to complete the first PWA Wave World Cup of 2003, so unfortunately the contest finished with no wave result. All the sailors have enjoyed an amazing week in Vargas and the beautiful area of Aguimes though, with decent surfing on the days before the contest and great freestyle sailing throughout the week.
Also, an amazing new stage was set for 2003 with high.tv broadcasting the whole competition live and direct through the internet, so viewers around the world can see the latest moves and the most radical action from the comfort of their armchairs instead of a windswept beach.
The next PWA Wave World Cup is back here in Gran Canaria beginning on June 26th at the infamous Pozo beach, renowned for nuclear winds, high adrenalin action and never without injury or excitement.
Both current Wave World Champion Kevin Pritchard (Starboard / Gaastra) and third in the world Nik Baker (Mistral / North) should have made full recoveries from their broken feet, which made them miss this event in Vargas. No doubt they are breathing a sigh of relief as with no result here this week, they are back in the title race for this years Wave World Championships.
In fact, so long as Pritchard and Baker both make full recoveries, 2003 will be the first year in the last decade that all the highest ranking wave sailors in the world will all be able to compete, as every other year one of them is out of action with injury.
The PWA Freestyle tour moves to Costa Brava in Spain on May 20th for their second Qualifier event ahead of the World Cup events later in the year. Currently leading the Freestyle rankings, is seventeen year old world beater from Margarita, Douglas "Cheo" Diaz (Fanatic / North). However, with all the highest ranking events still ahead, Cheo, along with all the other freestyle specialists, will be in secret training in different corners of the world developing new freestyle tricks to impress the judges in the end of June at Pozo.
